HOUSING & SHELTER
People in Portugal and beyond are suffering and do not know how to live victorious and abundant lives. Considering the risk of poverty in people over 18 years of employment, Portugal occupies the 8th place. A finding confirmed by INE statistics showing that the risk of poverty rate in the 18-64 age group was 16.7 percent, while in the population over 65 it was 17.7 percent. “Children continue to be the population group most affected by poverty, namely the so-called monetary poverty, that is, they live in households whose ‘per capita’ income is below 60 percent of the median ‘per capita national income.’”
There is a housing crisis here in the PORTUGAL too. Portugal has around 8,200 homeless people, with homeless people also living in the Algarve.
Of the total of approximately 8,200 people in this situation, the majority are men aged 45 to 64 years, who have been homeless for up to one year. The main causes are associated with dependence on alcohol or psychoactive substances unemployment, or job insecurity or financial insufficiency associated with other reasons.

Despite this being the generic characterisation of the homeless population, there many couple and families with children who are victims of homelessness
In the country, just over half of the homeless people live in various optional housing already but there are still over 4000 homeless individuals, who live on the streets, in emergency shelters or in precarious places.
We partner with corporations with the mission to secure the funds needed to send volunteers to build and renovate homes in Algarve and in Portugal.
Working closely with corporate partners and volunteers to engage deeply in the problem. We don’t just plan to build houses and shelters; we plan to build homes and communities – changing lives for those in housing need.
Volunteers are integral to our work, actively building alongside professionals and helping tackle housing poverty.
BUILDING FOR GIVING HOUSING TO PORTUGAL’S MOST VULNERABLE
After completion, the properties will be sublet to provide housing for vulnerable women and men (including women fleeing domestic violence, women who have been trafficked and mothers leaving prison).
In Portugal out of the many homeless and the total of approximately 8,200 people in this situation, the majority are men aged 45 to 64 years, who have been homeless for up to one year. The main causes are associated with dependence on alcohol or psychoactive substances unemployment, or job insecurity or financial insufficiency associated with other reasons.

UNITED & EMPOWERING MILLIONS RELIEF RESPONSE
We believe that the Algarve and Portugal as a whole is facing its biggest challenge in terms of rental housing that it has ever had, especially in terms of rental housing that is available throughout the year.
United & Empowering Millions is addressing this crisis by investing in organisations and individuals that will create affordable housing and provide employment and training opportunities for vulnerable individuals, demonstrating an alignment with United & Empowering Millions’ mission to eradicate poverty and create opportunity.

WE WELCOME ARCHITECTS, PHILANTHROPISTS AND CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONALS TO JOIN US AND HELP US IN OUR RELIEF RESPONSE EFFORTS

We are developing a volunteer project in collaboration with both local and national architects to foster these initiatives. United & Empowering Millions will support national, immigrant and ethnic minorities in the criminal justice and immigration systems and in the community. Our goal is to promote value-driven human rights and access to justice by providing legal assistance, bringing people together, uniting them, empowering them and preventing re-offending.
We invite you to join us in 2023 and become part of the solution to Portugal’s housing crisis. As a non-profit organisation working on housing, skills development and empowerment, we cannot tackle housing poverty on our own and your support is invaluable.

ABOLISHMENT OF HOMELESSNESS IN PORTUGAL
UNITED & EMPOWERING MILLIONS is therefore seeking applications to support housing projects (new housing, land rights regulation and water systems) for very poor urban families in Portugal’s cities.
The initiative aims to address the extreme social hardship faced by urban communities living in unsafe and insecure conditions and locations, or facing eviction. Many poor families cannot dream of accessing conventional housing programs, and therefore UNITED & EMPOWERING MILLIONS wants to offer these people accessible alternatives.
These families hope to receive innovative proposals that primarily address critical issues of sustainable housing and sanitation, in order to support with financial resources those who propose an effective improvement in the quality of life for the poorest of the poor. UNITED & EMPOWERING MILLIONS aims to improve the lives of these people and transform their current situation by realising their aspirations and providing them with sustainable housing and the long term goal is to abolish homelesness completely in Portugal.
